I want to let you all know that beginning this fall I will be serving as the Dean of Student Life at Calvin Christian High School in Grandville, Michigan. This is a new role at Calvin that is designed to accomplish the combined work of both a Chaplain and an Assistant Principal.

For those of you who know my story, you know that for most of my life I’ve been curious about teaching and working with high school and college students in an academic environment. In this role I will not only have opportunities to teach, but will also be organizing weekly chapel services, providing care and support to students and families, and helping to lead this school into the next chapter of it’s story. I’m grateful for the invitation to continue on my journey of youth and emerging adult advocacy, and to offer my experience, passion, and training to Calvin Christian High School.  I’m excited to be joining these students and this team.

Thank you to all of you who have prayed for and encouraged me and my family in this past season. We’re so grateful for all of you, and we promise to keep you updated as our story continues to unfold.

Grace and Peace,

I resigned from my role as Education Pastor on March 24, and yesterday was my last Sunday at Mars Hill.  Below is the note I shared at both services yesterday morning:

After nearly 11 years of serving as a pastor at Mars Hill, I’ve been sensing a calling toward a new direction for my life. While I’m not yet absolutely clear what that direction is—and the decision to step out of my position at Mars Hill was not an easy one—my family and I are confident that this is the right decision. We are grateful for the ways the leadership of Mars Hill has already stepped in to support my family and I as we seek what’s next.

For the past 18 years Mars Hill has been my family, and I’m grateful for the unbelievable privilege of serving in this church. Your participation in this community has made a difference in my life and in our world, and it has been an honor to be a part of this place with you all. I will forever be grateful for all of the care and love we have shared during my time at Mars Hill, and I hope the relationships we’ve built together will continue into the future.

I love you all very much, and I wish you all the best.

We promise to keep you updated as our journey unfolds.  Thanks for cheering us on.

Grace and Peace,
